TFC Academy pulled off a dominating 4-0 win over KNSC Lions in U-21 Provincial Central play

First place Toronto FC Academy (TFC Academy) headed to Kleinburg-Nobleton Soccer Club’s (KNSC Lions) home field on Aug,1 and were able to claim a dominating 4-0 win in U-21 Provincial Central action.

Kleinburg would start the match in a 3-4-3 formation, looking to have their two wing backs spring forward. TFC Academy decided to counter that with a 4-4-2 setup.

The home side were able to keep TFC Academy deep in their half for the majority of the first 20 minutes. KNSC then looked to utilize the middle of the pitch, but their short passes weren’t able to penetrate their opponents backline.

TFC Academy would get on the board first, thanks to Moises Corona’s (24’) chip shot from the top of the box that fooled KNSC keeper Brandon Fedrizzi.

Gianluca D’Andrea would create KNSC’s best chance in the first half at the 28’ minute mark, as he dribbled past his marker, switched the ball onto his right foot and took a shot from the edge of the box. However, TFC Academy keeper Rimi Olatunji would deny him.

TFC Academy would add to their lead, thanks to their leading scorer Theodor Corbeanu (33’). Corbeanu would stand up to take the free kick from 25 yards out, and curled his shot top right and over Fedrizzi for the 2-0 lead.

Corbeanu (44’) wasn’t done scoring yet, as he notched home his team leading seventh goal after receiving a short pass at the top of the box and curled his shot bottom right.

KNSC Lions head coach David Lattavo would make adjustments in the second half, switching to a 4-1-4-1 and hoping to add some offence to his team.

Even with the changes, TFC Academy’s backline of Tysen Phillips and Brayden Borutskie were proving to be too strong for KNSC lone striker and division leading scorer Daniel Sibley.

TFC Academy would end the match with a last minute goal by Themi Antonoglou to give them three points and a 4-0 victory.

With the win, TFC Academy now sit alone atop the U-21 Provincial Central division with 30 points in 10 matches. Their next will be against Glen Shields at Kia Training Ground on Aug, 12.
