2020 OSL Season Update
What is happening right now is absolutely crazy and unprecedented, with that being said the Ontario Soccer League Board of Directors have made the difficult decision to cancel the League Cups for the 2020 season (Alf Beese, Frank Docherty and George Finnie). We will issue refunds to all teams that have paid for these cups, however with the office being closed and the social distancing order these will not be completed or sent out until everything is somewhat back to normal.
As for the league play, yesterday the City of Toronto stated they will not issue any permits until July (fingers crossed). I will be researching the other municipalities but I feel that they might all follow suit. If this is the case we will more than likely not be able to run any U21 leagues and will probably have to come up with an idea for the open age groups to run a shortened season.
For the open age we could probably play everyone once in their group instead of a home/away schedule if we can start playing in Mid-July/August.
For the U21s, depending on when we are allowed back to play, we might be able to run some sort of exhibition series or tournament/cup.
We are continuing to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic on a daily basis in collaboration with our Government Ministry and Canada Soccer to ensure any decisions taken are fully aligned with the guidelines set forth by the public health authorities and government agencies.
We will be reviewing all of our options in the next little while, including league play, tournament play, exhibition series and the costs involved for these types of play.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate through this challenging period.
